1、 Adenosine is a vasodilator and also can be used as antiarrhythmic drug.The main indications include:
(1)Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. For the treatment of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia participation in the atrioventricular node reentry ,Adenosine is very effective as a drug of choice for treatment. Because of its short half-life and insignificant side effects, it can also be used when verapamil is ineffective or contraindicated.
(2)Differential diagnosis of ventricular tachycardia.
(3)Adjuvant of thallium-201 myocardial perfusion imaging.
2、Adenosine is used for the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), Adenosine 5'-monophosphate(AMP), Vidarabine, coenzyme A and other important intermediates.
